Walk for Dog Guides -- Sunday May 29, 2011
12p.m. Registration / 1:00pm Walk
Elgin Park, Uxbridge

For information call Bob at 905.852.4227

Yes, it’s another spring ritual in Uxbridge….it’s time for our annual LIONS VOLUNTARY ROAD TOLL on Friday and Saturday May 27/28/2011..

If you are out and about shopping on this week-end you may see us at the Zehrs Plaza exits with our sandwich boards and buckets asking you to contribute to our Annual Voluntary Road Toll……and that’s exactly what it is, voluntary.

Every year at about this time we take to the streets to ask you to throw some money in the pot so we can continue to help the less fortunate in our community and around the world. Last year we raised $5,300.

Look for the Uxbridge Lions and their buckets on May 27th and 28th ……we want to thank you in advance for your support.

FANTASY of LIGHTS UXBRIDGE 2010

This was the 3rd annual ‘Fantasy of Lights’ in Elgin Park. The event is usually held during the week before Christmas and is organized by the Optimist Club of Uxbridge with over 20 participants. These include many businesses, churches and service clubs from Uxbridge and the surrounding area. The lighted displays are enjoyed by the residents and visitors to the community either by driving around the park or by enjoying a nice winter stroll.

The Uxbridge Lions Club is pleased to be a part of this event. There is no charge to enjoy the ‘Fantasy of Lights’ but donations are appreciated.

Annual Lions Barbecue & Picnic at Uxbridge Manor & Spa

What a great way to spend our annual Lions barbecue & Picnic. A big thank you to this year’s hosts, Lisa & Rigo Borquez. The event took place at the home of Lisa & Rigo. We were joined by Friends of Lions, these are our dear spouses and friends who help out throughout the year at different events and services that we as Lions could not possibly hope to manage without their help. The grounds were the ideal setting for an evening of fellowship and awards.

Here is Lion President (2008-2010) Larry Peet being presented with the very prestigious Helen Keller Fellowship Award by Lion Treasurer Bob Armitage, who received the same award the previous time it was presented. The Helen Keller Fellowship award has been established by the board of directors, Lions Homes for Deaf People, to honour outstanding Lions, Lioness and Leos throughout our Lions District.

In 1925 Helen Keller addressed the Lions Clubs International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA, and challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." Since then, Lions worldwide have worked tirelessly to aid the blind and visually impaired. You can find out more about Helen Keller at this link.

Forty two (42) artists have already confirmed as of November 2010 for the 2011 event, and we are expecting as many as ninty six (96). The park setting provides the perfect venue to display and appreciate the work of local artists. The variety and quality of exhibitors will amaze you.

A full compliment of performing artists will entertain throughout the weekend and a children’s interactive art project will be provided by Denise Graves and Amanda McTavish.
A variety of food vendors will be on site to provide food and refreshments.

Where is Elgin Park ? Take Highway 47 east to Uxbridge and turn right at Elgin Park Drive, look for the Elgin Park entrance on your left. Elgin Park is located on the west side of Main Street, south of the bridge. Check out the Elgin Park Location Map.

Our thanks to our event sponsors and advertisers who have partnered with us again this year.

 2010 UXBRIDGE FALL FAIR
2010 Uxbridge FALL FAIR
The Uxbridge Lion Club have operated the food booth in Elgin Park for decades and the Fall Fair continues to be our busiest and most productive event. But if the truth were known, our current roster of 10 members could barely manage to staff one shift. If it weren't for our "friends" we wouldn't have opened for business this past weekend. Lion Don Prentice coordinates this work force and he managed to recruit member's spouses, friends, neighbors as well as members of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority .

So hats off to all who pitched in for the Lions to make everything work at the Fall Fair.

Regards,

Chuck Gullickson
President, Uxbridge & District Lions Club
